Of course, when it comes to birthing one of the lessons we all learn is that things don't always go the way we hope they will. Our son was born at home but shortly after we all had to transfer to the hospital because the placenta didn't deliver. We spent the next two days in a very understaffed ward at BC Women's Hospital. I realized that most importantly, it's not about where we birth - it's about how we birth. In the days that followed, I also quickly realized that no matter how amazing and transformative birth is, it's still only the beginning of a lifelong journey. As we prepared for our son's birth, we were surprised that no one was selling all the supplies we needed for our home birth. We spent the last few weeks of pregnancy running around town crossing items off our list one by one. We decided to start a business to fill this need and we have already learned so much from the project. What began as a simple idea has grown and evolved over the last two years. I've been reminded again and again of the lessons of birth and parenting. Our emphasis shifted from focusing only on home birth to addressing the whole event, no matter where it takes place. Wishing you all the best, Alison, Aaron & Baby Rain |
